Takahashi Kogei turns wood until a cup becomes much lighter than the eye expects. The rim is fine, the grain remains warm and the wall is thin enough to bring a delicacy rarely associated with wooden tableware.
The Asahikawa workshop reaches that balance through hikimono woodturning and custom-made blades that shape the wood with exceptional consistency. Collaborations with designers refine the proportions, but the craft is easiest to understand by lifting a piece: the warmth and character of wood, almost weightless in the hand.
